The Eurostar crisis December 2009

The Eurostar crisis, December 2009 was caused by bad weather bringing snowy and icy conditions. The results were that hundreds of passengers were stuck for hours without electricity in the channel tunnel and thousands more were stranded at both the London and Paris terminals as services were cancelled for over two days. To find out more visit The Telegraph’s coverage of the event.
WeAreSocial were Eurostar’s digital agency at the time. Although not contracted to handle crisis management, the agency took on the role of handling the crisis online.
WeAreSocial famously blogged about its approach to managing the situation, which has provided an early social media/crisis communications case study that all PRs and marketeers could and should learn from.
It’s definitely one that I’ll use for future reference. See WeAreSocial’s blog for the details.
